The history of Chateau des Bachelards can be dated back to 1100, when the Benedictine monks of Cluny created the Chateau’s vineyards. Today, it covers 12 hectares of land across Fleurie, Saint Amour, and Moulin a Vent, owned by the very passionate Alexandra de Vazeilles, who is an MBA graduate in viticulture, oenology, finance and marketing, and has a decade of solid experience working at Chateau Latour in Pauillac. Chateau des Bachelards is the first organic and biodynamic pioneer of the Fleurie, Moulin a Vent and Saint Amour appellations. With its remarkable asset of 60-to100-year-old vines, the production is miniscule. Their wines are characterized by the combination of the elegance of Burgundy and the delicacy of the Rhone Valley. Not only are the wines being well appreciated by critics including James Suckling and Jancis Robinson, but they are also served in many top Michelinstarred restaurants including Guy Savoy***, Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee***, Pierre Gagnaire*** etc The aromas are floral of peony and rose with nuances of hyacinth lined with liquorice. They develop in black cherry, nutmeg and cassis. The touch of mouth on the palate is full-bodied with power, the mid-palate is still relatively tannic, but tannins are well coated and velvety, the finish is expressive and of a beautiful complexity. The concentration of this wine is surprising and hides a beautiful density, which will allow to develop very favorably over time. The wine is full-bodied, complex, dense, with notes of fresh blackberry of great purity and a surprising rebound on the finish. Incredible soft tannins supported by a wonderful acidity that provides a remarkable long finish.
