The trellised vines grow on deep well-drained soils of decomposed granite. Harvested by hand in mid-season at perfect ripeness. These high-lying vineyards yield grapes with spicy, red fruit flavours.

In the Cellar: Bunch and berry selection took place on arrival at the cellar before being crushed and fermented. Natural fermentation took place in open 500 L French oak barrels before a gentle pressing in a basket press. The young wine was returned to the French oak barriques where malolactic fermentation was completed and a further 12 months maturation followed before bottling.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: A powerful aromatic wine that is assertive yet delicate and refined, with ample cracked black and white pepper spice, hints of rich dark chocolate against a substantial red berry fruit foundation tinged with subtle floral suggestions of violets and dried indigenous fynbos. A generously structured wine with ripe tannins that promises further integration and complexity on cellar maturation for up to 10 years. This wine is particularly recommended with full-flavoured dishes like roast venison, aged fillet and rump steaks, spicy sausages or confit of duck.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0606/1893/2422/products/TBS-Basket-Press-Syrah-2016-png-small-1.png?v=1702096527
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0606/1893/2422/products/field_image__53602_41974877-48a3-45e9-9848-90cf359f2d4e.png?v=1702097190
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0606/1893/2422/products/field_image__53602_5a990f15-3fe8-47d3-9216-ba120653da5d.png?v=1702097193
blason-de-levangile-2015-pomerol-2nd-wine-of-chateau-levangile-1x75cl
Blason de l'Evangile 2015, Pomerol (2nd wine of Chateau L'Evangile) (1x75cl)

Blason de l'Evangile represents the considered second wine expression of Château L'Evangile, a distinguished estate situated on Pomerol's revered plateau. Duhart-Milon is owned by its illustrious neighbor Lafite Rothschild, and shares its vineyard management and winemaking teams. The grand vin is known for its elegance, combined with Paulliac's typical power.

The single 73-hectare (180-acre) vineyard block is situated just to the west of Lafite Rothschild, facing Lafon-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe. The soils are a mix of fine gravel and sand on limestone, and are planted two-thirds to Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third to Merlot, although the precise proportion of the grand vin blend can vary with each vintage – for example, the 2012 features 53 percent Merlot.

The vat rooms and cellars are located separately in the town of Pauillac. Vinification takes place in vats designated for specific vineyard plots, and the grand vin is aged for up to 18 months in oak. Duhart-Milon produces a second wine called Moulin de Duhart, and in previous vintages an occasional third wine, Baron de Milon, was also released. The château's average production is around 30,000 cases a year.

The property is said to derive its name from a pirate named Duhart who sailed in the service of Louis XV and retired to the Médoc. The "Pirate's House" stood by the Gironde until the 1950s, and endures on the château's label. After the 1855 Classification, the estate underwent a period of decline until it was bought by Baron Eric de Rothschild in 1962. The vineyards had to be replanted, and as a result, wines from the 2000 vintage onwards are generally held to be superior to those of the previous few decades due to the increasing vine age.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0606/1893/2422/products/duhart-milon-2010_5f2ea937-0051-4ff1-85e5-db784c655ffd.png?v=1702101890
chateau-ferriere-2015-margaux-1x75cl
Chateau Ferriere 2015, Margaux (1x75cl)

Château Ferrière, a distinguished Third Growth of the 1855 Classification, presents its 2015 vintage from the esteemed Margaux appellation. The wines are focused on Merlot, which dominates the single vineyard plot that makes up the estate. The vineyard neighbors Pomerol powerhouse Petrus, as well as Château l'Evangile, which is owned by Domaines Baron de Rothschild.

The 26-hectare (64-acre) vineyard is planted on one of the highest plateaus in the region. The vines, which are on average 35 years old, are planted on Gunizan gravel topsoils with blue and green clay subsoils interspersed with iron oxide. Merlot flourishes here and the soils drain well, allowing for a good supply of water for the roots. While more than 85 percent of the vineyards are planted to Merlot there are a few rows of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grown throughout the vineyard.

The vines at Château Gazin are treated with minimal pesticides and organic fertilizers, and once the grapes are ripe they are harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs in small concrete vats in the winery, which is located next to the vineyards. Each variety is kept separate during fermentation and components are only blended together after the process is complete. The blended wines are then aged for 18 months in 50 percent new French barrels before being released. Interestingly, Gazin does not own its own barrels, and instead leases them on a yearly basis.

Château Gazin was acquired by Louis Soualle, a French wine merchant, in the early 20th century. Soualle's daughter married Edouard de Bailliencourt, who came from a family descended from the Lords of Landas. Today the château is still run by the same Bailliencourt family. It was built on a site that originally housed a hospital that cared for injured pilgrims walking along the Santiago de Compostela route from Spain.
