The Gaudron family – fourth generation Gilles Gaudron is currently at the helm – have been making wine in Vernou since about 1890, farming a 27-hectare vineyard, two-thirds of it with an average age of 30 years. Part of the team is Anthony Carfantan – Loire Valley born and bred, and has made it his mission to extend the reach of the family vineyard into international distribution and gained listings in Michelin starred acclaimed restaurants all over the world .

The cellars date back to the 13th century, with 1km of galleries burrowed deep into the rock. And it’s here where a few of the Gaudron wines spend several months in oak to acquire more complexity and character.

In 2012, Domaine Sylvain Gaudron acquired 1.2 hectare of land from Domaine du Petit Tresor and the objective was to create something unique and special with this plot. Gilles Gaudron conceived the idea to invest in 14 aged oak barrels from Chateau d’Yquem to mature the wine. The 220 litre aged-oak barrels help to obtain the fruitful characteristic the customer is after, especially when drinking a Chenin Blanc. The outcome is outstanding.
