Buccia Nera

An estate in the province of Arezzo, in eastern Tuscany, farming across several properties including Tenuta di Campriano. The range stays inside Chianti and Toscana IGT rather than reaching for the Bordeaux-blend style most Tuscan estates now make.

The range

Chianti DOCG from Tenuta di Campriano and Sassocupo Chianti Superiore DOCG form the base. Alongside them sit the Toscana IGT wines: PA'RO Toscana Rosso, PA'RO Toscana Bianco — a skin-contact orange wine — Tenuta di Campriano Bianco Toscana IGT, and the Confondo rosato and bianco. A Vin Santo Colli dell'Etruria Centrale DOC in 50cl closes the list. Riserva bottlings come and go with the vintage.

What to expect

Sangiovese in its everyday Tuscan register: a red made for food rather than for scoring. These are not Brunello or Super Tuscan prices, and they are not Brunello or Super Tuscan wines. They are made to be opened, not held.

Serving

Reds at 16–18°C, whites and the orange wine at 10–12°C. Vin Santo is served chilled, in small pours, after the meal.
