Duhart-Milon
Duhart-Milon is the Pauillac people buy when they have noticed who owns it. The Lafite Rothschild group took the property in 1962 and rebuilt it, and the shared ownership is real: same technical team, same selection discipline, same standards in the cellar. What it does not share is ground. Duhart's vineyard sits inland of Lafite's, and it carries more Merlot in the blend, so the wine is rounder and less austere than the neighbour it is constantly compared with.
The range divides into the grand vin and Moulin de Duhart, the second wine, which takes younger vines and lots that do not make the main blend. Between vintages, the difference is mostly structure: cooler years stay lean and need time, warmer ones arrive open. Older bottles here have already resolved much of the tannin.
Where paying more stops helping is the point at which you are buying the association rather than the wine. A quiet vintage of Duhart is still Duhart; a famous one is priced against Lafite's shadow.
