Tenuta Ulisse
An estate in Abruzzo, on the Adriatic side of central Italy between the Apennines and the sea. Montepulciano is the region's red grape and Pecorino its revived white — both are here, along with a range that reaches into neighbouring Terre di Chieti IGP.
The range
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOP is the everyday red, with Amaranta as the step above it. 10 Vendemmie — the name means ten harvests — is a multi-vintage blend in both red and white, and is the estate's most recognised bottle here; Don Antonio sits alongside it. Whites and rosé: Pecorino Terre di Chieti IGP across several vintages, Premium Pinot Grigio, and Premium Rosé. Masseri Primitivo completes the list.
What to expect
Abruzzo is priced as an everyday region and these are everyday wines — soft, ripe, low in tannin, made to be opened without ceremony. 10 Vendemmie is the sweetest-fruited of them and the one that divides opinion; the straight Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the drier, more conventional bottle. Pecorino is the white worth trying if you do not know it: dry, with more body than Pinot Grigio.
Serving
Reds at 16–18°C, whites and rosé at 9–11°C. Drink the current release — none of these gain from keeping.
