Brunelli — Amarone della Valpolicella
Brunelli
A family estate in Valpolicella Classico, the historic hillside zone north-west of Verona. The house works through the full Valpolicella ladder rather than making Amarone alone.
The range
Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is the anchor, with Campo del Titari as the Riserva above it. Below sit Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico and the Verona IGT bottling Carianum. The appellation grapes are Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella; for Amarone the fruit is dried after harvest before fermentation, and Ripasso is refermented on the drained Amarone skins.
What to expect
Amarone is a dried-grape wine — high in alcohol, full-bodied, and suited to substantial food rather than to an aperitif. If this is your first bottle from the estate, the Ripasso shows the house style at roughly a third of the Amarone price. Campo del Titari Riserva is the one to cellar.
Serving
Serve at 17–18°C in a large bowl. Amarone opens over an hour or more — decant it, or open the bottle early.
