Burgundy under 600

Burgundy prices track the classification ladder, and the ladder is about the size and status of the plot rather than a verdict on the wine.

The order runs Régionale (labelled Bourgogne), then Village, then Premier Cru, then Grand Cru. Grand Cru covers only a small fraction of the region's output, which is most of the reason the top of the market behaves the way it does.

Under HK$600 you are mostly in Régionale and Village territory, and that is a workable place to be. Almost all of it is Chardonnay or Pinot Noir; the differences you taste come from site and producer, not from grape choice.

A practical note: at this level the producer's name is usually a better guide than the appellation, because Village wines from a careful grower and a careless one carry the same words on the label.
