Chateau La Lagune
Chateau La Lagune sits at the southern tip of the Haut-Medoc, closer to the city of Bordeaux than to any of the famous villages, and that geography is what people misread. Being outside Margaux or Pauillac is an address, not a verdict. La Lagune was classified a third growth in 1855 and has stayed there while the villages around it grew more expensive.
The range is short. There is the grand vin, a Cabernet-led blend with a real share of Merlot and Petit Verdot, made across a run of vintages, and there is Moulin du Chateau La Lagune, the second wine, drawn from younger vines and lots that do not make the main blend. The difference between them is structure and how much time in bottle they reward, not a difference in care.
Between vintages of the grand vin, paying more usually buys a better-regarded year rather than more flavour in the glass. Cooler vintages drink well sooner.
