Anima Negra remains the benchmark estate for modern fine winemaking on the island of Mallorca. Sourced from ancient vines around Felanitx growing on iron-rich clay soils known locally as cal vermell, the 2013 'ÀN' is a cerebral expression composed predominantly of the indigenous Callet grape, complemented by Mantonegre and Fogoneu.
Fermented with native yeasts in temperature-controlled vessels prior to roughly 18 months of maturation in new and used French oak barriques, this vintage highlights the rustic elegance of Balearic terroir. Now showing over a decade of bottle age, the wine demonstrates resolved tannins, subtle tertiary complexities, and a distinctive savory mineral core.
Tasting notes
Appearance: Deep garnet with a terracotta rim reflecting bottle maturity.
Nose: Earthy aromas of Mediterranean garrigue, dried black figs, rosemary, and sweet tobacco, underpinned by an iron-like minerality and subtle toasted oak.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with fine-grained, fully resolved tannins. Flavors of dark cherry skin, dried wild berries, and cured meat are framed by balanced acidity and a touch of balsamic spice.
Finish: Persistent and distinctly savory, concluding with lingering notes of dried herbs, clove, and crushed stone.
