Bond's Melbury vineyard occupies a steep, north-facing slope in the hills east of Rutherford overlooking Lake Hennessey. Situated on compressed volcanic ash and sedimentary clay soils, this seven-acre site yields Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines renowned for their plush textural richness, floral aromatics, and refined tannic structure.
The benchmark 2013 Napa Valley vintage provided optimal conditions for slow, even ripening, resulting in fruit of extraordinary concentration and architectural depth. Maturation in custom French oak barrels has integrated the wine's dense dark fruit profile with delicate oak spice. Presented in a 150cl magnum format, this release possesses the thermal mass and slow oxygen exchange rate required for decades of cellar evolution.
Tasting notes
Deep garnet-purple in the glass. The bouquet opens with concentrated aromas of black cherry preserve, cassis, and violets, underpinned by graphite, espresso bean, and subtle forest floor nuances.
The palate is full-bodied and impeccably framed, displaying remarkable energy and balance. Layers of black fruit reduction, mocha, and crushed limestone minerality are supported by ripe, fine-grained tannins. Vibrant acidity provides momentum through a protracted, savory finish.
