Château Sociando-Mallet occupies a privileged gravel outcrop in the northern Haut-Médoc, overlooking the Gironde estuary near Saint-Estèphe. The 2014 vintage benefited from an exceptionally warm, dry late summer, allowing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to achieve complete physiological ripeness while retaining vibrant natural acidity.
Vinified in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, the wine underwent extended maceration before maturation in 100% new French oak barriques for 12 to 18 months. The deep gunflint gravel over a clay-limestone subsoil provides both radiant heat and water retention, imparting Sociando-Mallet's signature inkiness, mineral drive, and formidable structural density. Built in a classic, uncompromising style, this 2014 represents an exemplary expression of Northern Médoc terroir with exceptional longevity.
Tasting notes
Deep garnet-purple in the glass. The nose opens with precise aromas of cassis, graphite, damp earth, tobacco leaf, and subtle cedar oak. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a muscular tannin structure, bright acidity, and a core of dark plum, wild blackberry, and crushed stone minerals. The finish is persistent, refined, and marked by a savory, classic Médoc grip.
