Dominio de Pingus' PSI project, spearheaded by the visionary Peter Sisseck, represents a profound commitment to preserving the ancient viticultural heritage of Ribera del Duero. PSI, an acronym for 'Pueblos y Viñas' (Villages and Vines), sources fruit from meticulously tended old-vine parcels of Tinto Fino, often blended with a small proportion of Garnacha, cultivated by local growers. The 2018 vintage, presented here in a 150cl magnum format, reflects a season of balanced conditions, yielding fruit of exceptional purity and concentration. Sisseck's philosophy for PSI diverges from the intense concentration of Pingus, aiming instead for an expression of Ribera del Duero that is both authentic and approachable in its youth, while retaining significant ageing potential. The winemaking employs a gentle hand, with fermentation in concrete and ageing predominantly in large, neutral oak foudres, ensuring the terroir and fruit character remain paramount.
Tasting notes
The 2018 PSI magnum presents a deep ruby hue, hinting at its concentration. On the nose, an intricate bouquet unfolds with ripe black cherry, cassis, and dark plum, interwoven with nuances of liquorice, cedar, and a delicate floral lift. The palate is remarkably poised and elegant, showcasing a medium-to-full body supported by finely integrated tannins and a vibrant acidity that carries the fruit through a persistent finish. Layers of dark fruit persist, complemented by subtle earthy undertones and a whisper of spice. This vintage exemplifies PSI's commitment to purity and balance, offering both immediate enjoyment and the structural integrity for graceful evolution over the coming decade.
