Estate
Hewitson was founded by Dean Hewitson in 1998. James Halliday Five Star (top 10%). The estate farms the Old Garden vineyard, planted in 1853 — the oldest Mourvèdre vines in the world.
Region
Barossa Valley, warm and dry, with the densest concentration of old vines in Australia.
Variety & Style
Baby Bush is grown from cuttings taken off those Old Garden mother vines — hence the name. Mourvèdre typically sits between red and black fruit, with an earthy, savoury edge and firm but not coarse tannin.
What to Expect
This is not Old Garden. It is a way to drink the same genetic material and the same hands at an accessible price. Mourvèdre is rarely bottled on its own in Australia, so the variety alone justifies the bottle. Only twelve available.
Serving
17°C, decant 30 minutes. Grilled meats, braises, spice-driven dishes.
