Estate
Ministry of Clouds, McLaren Vale. James Halliday Five Red Star (top 2%).
Region
McLaren Vale holds some of the world's oldest Grenache vines, a number of them beyond a century. The variety has moved from a blending component to a bottled star.
Variety & Style
Modern McLaren Vale Grenache is made quite differently from a generation ago: earlier picking, less oak, aromatics preserved. The result leads with red cherry, spice and florals over gentle tannin, medium bodied — closer in texture to Burgundy than to traditional Australian red.
What to Expect
This is not heavy, dense or thick. If your test for a red is how much power it has, this will disappoint you. Its value is aroma and ease of drinking.
Serving
14–16°C, a light chill is recommended. Roast chicken, grilled vegetables, Chinese roast meats, moderately spiced Asian dishes.
