Region
Coonawarra is defined by terra rossa — a strip of red soil roughly 15 km long and 1.5 km wide over limestone. It is Australia's most famous single-soil region, best known for Cabernet.
Variety & Style
Coonawarra Shiraz gets less attention than its Cabernet, but the style is distinct: cooler than other South Australian regions, with more black pepper and a minty lift. Medium to full bodied with firm tannin.
What to Expect
With seven years in bottle it sits at the balance point between fruit and maturity. It is not a famous label, but it is an inexpensive way to understand what terra rossa tastes like.
