Château Gazin stands as one of Pomerol's most venerable estates, with a history tracing back to the 18th century. Situated on the famed Pomerol plateau, its vineyards are strategically positioned amongst some of the appellation's most illustrious names, including Pétrus and L'Evangile. The estate's terroir is characterised by a mosaic of clay, gravel, and iron-rich subsoils, providing an ideal foundation for Merlot, which forms the backbone of its grand vin, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2006 vintage in Bordeaux, particularly on the Right Bank, is recognised for producing wines of classical structure and impressive longevity. Following a growing season marked by a warm August and a cooler September, the grapes achieved optimal ripeness while retaining a crucial freshness. Château Gazin 2006 exemplifies the vintage's potential, showcasing a wine crafted with precision. Fermentation in temperature-controlled vats is followed by an extensive maturation period, typically 15-18 months, in French oak barriques, with a significant proportion of new wood, carefully integrated to enhance complexity without overshadowing the fruit. This meticulous approach yields a Pomerol that balances power with finesse, designed for graceful evolution in the cellar.

Tasting notes

The 2006 Château Gazin presents a captivating aromatic profile, indicative of a mature Pomerol from a classic vintage. On the nose, a complex interplay of dark plum, cassis, and dried cherry fruit is interwoven with evolving tertiary notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and a hint of truffle. The palate is medium to full-bodied, displaying a remarkable elegance and seamless integration. Velvety tannins provide a refined structure, supporting layers of ripe fruit, savoury spice, and an earthy minerality. The acidity is well-preserved, lending freshness and ensuring a persistent, harmonious finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now, yet possesses the depth and balance to continue evolving over the coming years.
