Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley, a revered name in Volnay, extends its meticulous viticulture to the Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune. This appellation, situated on the elevated slopes west of the Côte de Beaune, benefits from a cooler microclimate and distinct limestone-rich soils, yielding wines of remarkable freshness and purity.
The 2017 vintage, celebrated for its classic balance and vibrant acidity, is beautifully expressed in this Pinot Noir. It offers a quintessential representation of the Hautes Côtes: a lighter, more ethereal style of Burgundy, yet with underlying structure and aromatic complexity. Bouley's commitment to minimal intervention allows the terroir to speak eloquently, resulting in a wine that is both approachable in its youth and capable of graceful evolution.
Tasting notes
In the glass, this 2017 Hautes Côtes de Beaune presents a luminous ruby hue. The nose is immediately engaging, revealing delicate aromas of wild red berries—cranberry, redcurrant, and a hint of cherry—intertwined with subtle earthy undertones, a whisper of forest floor, and a touch of violet. On the palate, the wine is elegant and precise, driven by a vibrant acidity that carries the pure red fruit flavours. Fine-grained tannins provide a gentle structure, leading to a refreshing and persistent finish marked by mineral freshness and a lingering red fruit echo. A testament to the vintage's clarity and the appellation's inherent charm.
