The J. Lohr Estates Bay Mist White Riesling 2022 hails from Monterey County, a Californian appellation renowned for its significant maritime influence. The "Bay Mist" designation directly references the cooling fogs and breezes from the Pacific Ocean, which moderate vineyard temperatures and extend the growing season. This cool-climate viticulture is crucial for cultivating Riesling, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness while retaining their characteristic vibrant acidity and aromatic complexity.
J. Lohr's approach to this White Riesling emphasizes purity of fruit and varietal expression. The wine is typically fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve the delicate floral and citrus notes inherent to the grape. This careful winemaking ensures a precise articulation of Monterey's unique terroir, resulting in a wine that balances intensity with refreshing clarity.
