Acquired by Angelo Gaja in 1994, Pieve Santa Restituta stands as a benchmark for precision and regional typicity in southwestern Montalcino. The 2019 vintage delivered near-ideal growing conditions, yielding a Brunello of exceptional phenolic maturity, energetic acidity, and long-term cellaring potential.
Sourced from estate plots rich in galestro and limestone, the grapes undergo temperature-controlled fermentation before an extended maturation in a combination of French oak barrels and large traditional casks. This judicious oak regime preserves the pure expression of Sangiovese while imparting refined, muscular tannins and enduring structure.
Tasting notes
The nose opens with brooding dark wild plum, dried violet, crushed gravel, and subtle tobacco leaf. On the palate, a tightly coiled core of sour cherry, licorice, and iron-like minerality is framed by muscular, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is persistent, precise, and distinctly savory.
