The House of Piper-Heidsieck presents its Essentiel Blanc de Noir NV, a cuvée meticulously crafted to express the profound character of Champagne's black grape varietals. This non-vintage release is a testament to the producer's commitment to precision and terroir-driven winemaking.
Composed predominantly of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, sourced from select parcels across the Champagne region, this Blanc de Noir undergoes an extended period of maturation on its lees. This process, coupled with a judiciously low dosage, contributes to its distinctive textural richness and a profile that prioritises purity and mineral expression over overt sweetness. The 'Essentiel' designation underscores a focus on the fundamental elements that define a great Champagne.
Tasting notes
The aromatic profile is complex and inviting, revealing notes of redcurrant, wild strawberry, and toasted brioche, interwoven with nuances of almond and a pronounced chalky minerality. On the palate, a vibrant acidity provides tension and freshness, supporting a core of ripe orchard fruit and a delicate creaminess derived from its extended lees contact. The mousse is fine and persistent, leading to a long, saline finish that speaks to the wine's structural integrity and regional typicity.
