Camartina is predominantly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, sourced from Querciabella's prime vineyard parcels in Greve in Chianti. The 2017 vintage, characterised by a warm and dry growing season, yielded concentrated fruit, contributing to the wine's intensity and structure. Following fermentation in stainless steel, the wine undergoes malolactic conversion and subsequent maturation in French oak barriques, a portion of which are new, for approximately 16-18 months. This meticulous oak regime integrates seamlessly, imparting complexity without overshadowing the intrinsic fruit character. The result is a wine of profound depth, balance, and considerable cellaring potential.
Tasting notes
The 2017 Camartina displays a deep ruby hue. On the nose, an intricate bouquet unfolds, revealing concentrated dark fruit aromas of cassis and blackberry, interwoven with nuances of cedar, tobacco leaf, and a subtle hint of violet. The palate is full-bodied and impeccably structured, showcasing firm yet refined tannins and a vibrant acidity that provides remarkable freshness. Flavours echo the aromatic profile, with layers of dark cherry, graphite, and a savoury minerality leading to a persistent, elegant finish. This vintage, while approachable now, promises significant evolution and complexity with further bottle age.
