Taittinger Brut Reserve N.V. exemplifies the house's distinctive style, rooted in a significant proportion of Chardonnay, typically around 40% of the blend. Sourced from over 35 different crus across the Champagne appellation, this non-vintage cuvée is a testament to meticulous blending and extended maturation.
The high Chardonnay content, unusual for a non-vintage Brut, imparts a characteristic elegance, freshness, and finesse. Complementary Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier contribute structure and fruit. Following primary fermentation, the wine undergoes a minimum of three years of ageing on its lees in Taittinger's historic chalk cellars, allowing for the development of complex autolytic notes and a refined mousse. This half-bottle format (37.5cl) offers an ideal opportunity to experience Taittinger's signature expression.
Tasting notes
The Taittinger Brut Reserve N.V. presents a brilliant, golden-yellow hue with a persistent stream of fine bubbles. The bouquet is expressive and elegant, revealing initial notes of white flowers, hawthorn, and acacia, evolving into nuances of fresh fruit, particularly peach and apricot, underpinned by subtle brioche and toasted almond from its extended lees ageing.
On the palate, it is vibrant and impeccably balanced, showcasing a lively acidity that carries flavours of citrus zest, green apple, and a delicate minerality. The mid-palate offers a creamy texture and a harmonious integration of fruit and autolytic complexity. The finish is long, clean, and refreshing, leaving an impression of refined elegance and a subtle saline persistence.
