Wild Duck Creek Estate was planted in Heathcote by David Anderson in 1980 and is known internationally for its scarce Duck Muck Shiraz. James Halliday Five Star (top 10%).
Region
Heathcote is defined by Cambrian soil — a weathered volcanic red earth roughly 500 million years old with exceptional water retention, and among the most highly regarded red-wine soils in Australia.
Variety & Style
Grenache is uncommon in Heathcote, which is Shiraz country, so a single-vineyard Grenache from here is a genuine outlier. Typical Grenache character: red cherry, spice and florals, gentle tannin, medium body.
What to Expect
Two kinds of rarity at once — Grenache from a Shiraz region, made by an estate known for a cult Shiraz. Do not expect Duck Muck's concentration; this is a wine pointed in a different direction.
Serving
15–16°C, lightly chilled if you like. Roast chicken, grilled vegetables, cured ham, Chinese roast meats.
