Estate
Founded in 1894, Wirra Wirra is among McLaren Vale's most historic wineries. James Halliday Five Red Star (top 2%).
Region
McLaren Vale lies close to the coast, and afternoon sea breezes moderate the ripening. It is one of the few Australian regions that handles Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet equally well.
Variety & Style
Church Block is a Cabernet Sauvignon / Shiraz / Merlot blend and one of the longest continuously produced blends in Australia. Cabernet gives the frame and cassis, Shiraz the flesh and spice, Merlot fills the mid-palate. Medium-bodied with rounded tannins.
What to Expect
This is not a cellaring wine. It is built to be opened tonight — consistent, food-friendly, hard to get wrong. The Five Red Star rating speaks to thirty years of consistency at the estate, not to rarity in this bottle.
Serving
16–18°C. Red meat, barbecue, hard cheese, tomato-based pasta. Drink through 2030.
