Yeringberg has belonged to the de Pury family since 1862 and is one of the Yarra Valley's most historic properties. Production is roughly 1,200 cases a year. James Halliday Five Red Star (top 2%).
Region
The Yarra Valley is among Australia's coolest major regions and a heartland for Pinot Noir. Some of Yeringberg's vines are the oldest in the valley.
Variety & Style
Traditional in approach: red cherry and raspberry with earth, spice and a whole-bunch structural edge. Light to medium bodied, fine-grained tannin, acidity built for the long term.
What to Expect
This is not an open-and-enjoy wine. It asks for time, the right glass and a quiet setting. The very small production is part of the price — you are buying the rarity of a 160-year-old estate. If you want to drink tonight, Ashton Hills (#32 / #33) is the practical choice.
