Larsen VSOP Reserve (1x70cl)
Larsen VSOP Reserve (1x70cl)
Larsen, often referred to as "The Cognac of the Vikings" due to its Norwegian founder Jens Reidar Larsen, maintains a distinctive house style that prioritises fruit purity and elegance. The Larsen VSOP Reserve represents a carefully curated selection of eaux-de-vie, aged beyond the minimum requirements for its designation.
Crafted predominantly from Ugni Blanc grapes, double-distilled in traditional Charentais copper pot stills, this Cognac undergoes maturation in French oak barrels. The "Reserve" designation signifies a blend where the youngest eaux-de-vie have spent a minimum of four years in wood, though Larsen often incorporates older components to achieve greater depth and complexity. This meticulous ageing regime allows for the development of nuanced aromas and a refined palate, characteristic of a well-structured VSOP.
Tasting notes
The Larsen VSOP Reserve presents a luminous amber hue in the glass. The bouquet is expressive, revealing an intricate interplay of ripe stone fruits, notably apricot and dried fig, interwoven with delicate floral undertones of violet and jasmine. A subtle vanilla sweetness emerges, complemented by hints of toasted almond and a whisper of baking spice from its oak maturation.
On the palate, it is remarkably smooth and well-balanced, offering a harmonious continuation of the aromatic profile. Flavours of candied orange peel, honey, and a gentle rancio develop, leading to a refined, medium-length finish that is both warming and elegantly persistent.
