Six bottles of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: three of Pure Island, and three of Cloudy Bay.

Why these two sit together

Pure Island is made by VINULTRA, an independent family producer in the Southern Valleys, south of the Wairau plains. Its winemaker, Eveline Fraser, spent six vintages as head winemaker at Cloudy Bay before she moved across. So the two wines in this box are separated by one career: the house she came from, and the house she has made eighteen vintages for since.

Open them next to each other and the comparison writes itself — same grape, same region, two different addresses.

Drinking

Serve both well chilled, 8-10°C. Sauvignon Blanc in this style drinks young, within a couple of years of the vintage, so there is no reason to keep the box waiting. The Pure Island estate suggests sushi, garlic prawn pasta, baked fish and fish tacos.
