Estate
Pfeiffer Wines, Rutherglen. James Halliday Five Red Star (top 2%).
Region
Beyond fortified wine, Rutherglen holds some of Australia's rare old Marsanne plantings. The variety, native to the northern Rhône, has more than a century of history in Victoria.
Variety & Style
Marsanne is fairly neutral when young, showing white flowers and citrus. Its real character emerges with age — beeswax, roasted nuts and honeyed texture, with the body turning broad and oily.
What to Expect
⭐ This bottle already has eleven years in bottle, so you are buying a finished wine rather than a promise. It is the rarest proposition in the collection: an inexpensive white that has already completed its transformation. The trade-off is that there will be no fresh fruit. If that matters to you, choose something else.
Serving
12–14°C, not chilled hard. Roast chicken, rich fish, cream sauces, aged cheese.
