Chateau d'Angludet
Angludet sits in Margaux, makes wine that tastes like Margaux, and has never been classified. That last fact is the one people read wrongly. The absence of a growth beside the name is not a verdict on the wine; it is an accident of who owned which parcel in 1855 and who did not, preserved ever since. The Sichel family have run the place since the 1960s and have never seemed troubled by it.
The range here is unusually simple. There is one wine, made every year, sold under the Cru Bourgeois banner. What separates one bottle from the next is not a tier but an age. Younger vintages arrive with the perfume forward and the tannin still standing in front of it. The older bottles have already done the waiting, which is most of what a Margaux drinker pays for anywhere else.
Above a point, paying more here buys years in bottle rather than a better wine. If you are opening it this month, that is worth paying. If you are putting it away, it is not.
