Estate
Mitchell Wines was founded in Clare Valley in 1975 by Andrew and Jane Mitchell. James Halliday Five Star (top 10%).
Region
Clare Valley sits higher and cools sharply at night, which gives its Shiraz a more restrained, peppery profile than the Barossa.
Variety & Style
Peppertree is a long-standing estate wine. Typical Clare Shiraz: medium to full body, dark fruit framed by black pepper and dried herbs, firm but not coarse tannins.
What to Expect
With eight years in bottle, the primary fruit phase has passed and secondary character is emerging. If you want a bright, fruit-driven young red, this is not it. Its value is that it is a wine already evolving but not yet old.
Serving
17–18°C, decant 45 minutes. Roast lamb, peppered beef, aged cheese.
